Welcome to the governors section of the Castle Lower School website. School governors are volunteers who serve as ‘critical friends’ to the school, contribute to strategic management and provide accountability for how the school is run. Ofsted has judged governance at Castle to be outstanding (Ofsted Report), with governors providing “high levels of support and challenge.”

At Castle, we have 18 seats on our governing body – six parent governors elected by parents of children at the school, the headteacher plus three staff governors elected by their colleagues, four Local Authority governors appointed by county councillors and four community governors appointed by the governing body itself to bring a community perspective to the school.

Governing bodies may also appoint associate members who are interested in contributing to the work of the governing body, and Castle currently has three associate members.

The full governing body meets twice a term, as do our two standing committees – Buildings Finance & Personnel and Standards & Children. Minutes of these meetings can be viewed via the links above. Ad hoc committees and working parties are also formed as necessary to look at particular issues that may arise.
